Physician Clinic Coming to Redstone Gateway

HUNTSVILLE, AL  |  October 18, 2023 – A primary care clinic is expected to be part of Redstone Gateway, the mixed-use development outside Gate 9, by next summer.

Huntsville Hospital Health System and COPT Defense Properties have announced that they will begin work later this year on a comprehensive primary care clinic at Redstone Gateway. According to a release, Huntsville Hospital’s Physician Care-Redstone is expected to open in the summer of 2024.

“Providing a comprehensive and convenient clinic at Redstone Gateway is one of the key elements in helping address the primary care shortage in our community,” Josh Hewiett, senior vice president of physician services for the health system, said in the release. “No area of north Alabama is growing faster than Redstone Arsenal and Huntsville Hospital is proud to support the Army, NASA, FBI, and everyone at Team Redstone.”

“We are proud to welcome the newest location of Huntsville Hospital’s Physician Care to Redstone Gateway,” James Lomax, vice president of asset management for COPT Defense, said. “This on-demand health care facility will be a welcomed amenity for the employees that work at the defense, aerospace, and research companies within the campus, as well as those on Redstone Arsenal.”

When the facility is built out, it will occupy 10,000 square feet for physician and laboratory services at 6000 Redstone Gateway, according to officials. Hewiett said additional ancillary services would be added as needed.

Although the release didn’t provide the services that will be available at the new clinic, the services available at Physician Care at Hampton Cove, for example, include care for patients with undefined symptoms and complaints who need help diagnosing their illness, childhood check-ups and immunizations, complete physicals for sports participation or employment, preventive medicine screening care and collaborative care of patients with chronic medical illnesses like high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease and emphysema.

COPT Defense Properties, formerly named Corporate Office Properties Trust, and its joint venture partner, Jim Wilson & Associates, are developing Redstone Gateway.

The city of Huntsville, the developers and the Department of the Army entered an agreement more than 10 years ago through an enhanced use lease on the land at Redstone Arsenal to create the office park. The Army still owns the property, according to Jake Roth, chief of master planning with the Garrison’s Directorate of Public Works.

Ultimately, the class-A office park will have 4.6 million square feet of space of retail and restaurant amenities and two full-service hotels, according to COPT Defense Properties.

The park’s existing amenities include a 120-room TownePlace Suites by Marriott hotel, Ardent Pre-school & Daycare and The Shops at Redstone Gateway — 19,200 square feet of retail space, including three restaurants and a conference center.

Huntsville Hospital, the second-largest hospital in Alabama, is an 881-bed hospital that serves as the regional referral center for northern Alabama and southern Tennessee. The not-for-profit hospital has expanded its services throughout the region with the development of Huntsville Hospital Health System, which includes a network of community hospitals and physician services in Huntsville, Madison, Athens, Decatur, Boaz, Guntersville, Moulton, Red Bay, Sheffield and Scottsboro in Alabama and in Fayetteville, Tennessee.
